The reason why I do not like Toshiba-brand drives is that they cost at least 3 times the price as other drives do. That´s at least what I was told from German authorized Toshiba dealers. Thus, I am willing to take any other brand...

Hi YP5, I would be glad if that would be the case, but testing different harddrives out brought me back into reality: A MK4021GAS with Compaq P/N was not detected by notebook BIOS at all, and a Fujitsu MHV2040AT doesn´t fit...
