One thing worth a try: go to control panel -> sound and audio devices -> volume -> advanced check if "stereo headphones" is currently set. Try some of the other settings. Hope that helps.

Most of the aspire 5020 models have X700 with 128MB memory. That changes things quite a bit. If you keep in mind that it was released a year ago, you will find it hard to argue that aspire 5020 are not for gaming.
