Has anyone researched the possibility of unlocking Dell's lock of the 7800 card's bios? You would think they'd make it possible for people to use the driver set's auto-overclock software to SAFELY overclock the card rather than force...

This doesn't sound like your problem (because when I did it I still got 4600 3dmark05 scores), but if you boot up without the AC adapter plugged in, the system scales down performance and you lose a couple thousand points on the benchmarks.
