Well surge protectors regulate the power flow. Also make sure to replace your surge protector every few years or your house can catch on fire.

Does the Barebone S96j you're buying come with the CD/DVD drive?

HAL80 definitely with 9-Cell battery.

Probably be better if you like get the barebones at gentech + dvd burner drive since you need special brackets that are only available with the official CD burner/DVD drive.
