All 3 componenets share one fan along a copper rod(heatpipe maybe?) Southbridge transfer heat first, then GPU, then the CPU, finally arriving at the Heatsink with the fan. So the heat does "add" up.
The hardware acceleration drop is a result of the installation of the QuickCam software with AEC enabled. Logitech's problem I'm afraid :\
I believe it is logitech's problem, after installing the QuickCam software with AEC enabled, it throttles down to basic everytime. This apparent with Creative cards and Logitech's Orbit...
if you mean artifacts as in breaks in the music/sound, it's because of basic acceleration is on, and not full in dxdiag.
