Well, it isn't actually dead. In fact, I'm posting this from my 8790 right now. It does have many many problems though...stick of bad memory taken out, messed up video card (I think the motherboard is damaged), and a non-functioning...
Have the screen replaced with the QDI screen. I did it and all my screen issues went away. No more shadows, no more ripples, and what feels like twice the brightness.
After all the heartache, my 8204 is back in my hands with a beautiful QDI screen. No problems whatsoever so far. It really is a night and day difference from the Samsung.
There has to be something wrong with it...like visible black shadows, grey lines, etc...but if there are, they will have fedex pick up the computer from your door and probably have it back to you in about a week.
The Samsung screen seems to be the only one having problems.

Ahhh the saga continues. So since my last post the following has happened: 1) Sent 8204 to Acer repair 2) Acer sent it back saying they fixed my issue. Replaced LCD converter board, but still the same problems. I was pretty sure it...
newegg has a refund claim in the works for my first 8204, but they refused to do it for the second one as it appears tp be a manufacturing problem. My second 8204 arrived at Acer today according to FedEx so I'll keep you all posted...
I've ordered and received 2 8204's from newegg in the past week. Both LCD's had similar black shading in the bottom 2 corners but my computer is at Acer's repair center as we speak probably getting a new screen.
