I now am pretty sure there's something wrong with my hardware: I can connect wireless fine with the switch on 0. And yes, it's set in BIOS to toggle WIFI+bluetooth.
There is actually software witch lets you do this (using a screen on a networked computer just as if it was a second monitor - no VNC clone), but I don't remember the name of it. Try googling, I'll get back if I remember...
