I ended up uninstalling my copy xp64. Even with all the 64 bit mb drivers, I found a significant lag in HD speed when trying to edit videos. No real benefits otherwise. I'm thinking that maybe it's because xp64 is emulating 32bit...

Temporary solution would be to just unplug the ethernet cable from your desktop and plug the modem into the laptop. Unless you have DSL it should be cut and dry. DSL requires passwords and login info. Is the RJ45 cable a crossover...

Probably the easiest thing to do is get a wireless router and plug your BB modem into that. You can pick them up for as little as $10 after rebates.
