I ended up uninstalling my copy xp64. Even with all the 64 bit mb drivers, I found a significant lag in HD speed when trying to edit videos. No real benefits otherwise. I'm thinking that maybe it's because xp64 is emulating 32bit...

Temporary solution would be to just unplug the ethernet cable from your desktop and plug the modem into the laptop. Unless you have DSL it should be cut and dry.
DSL requires passwords and login info.
