Nice topic, I had a couple out of date drivers.
Mine is running at 41c for the CPU and 37c for the HDD right now. I notice the heat your talking about to the right of the touchpad, but it doesn't bother me.
I didn't see a SZ220 on Sony's website, but the m3450 is a lot cheaper than a similarly configured SZ240. Sony's was about 300 more. The screen is a 13.3 on the Sony, and a 14.1 on the AW. Also, sony only offers the Core Duo processor...
What version of Everest do you have cpt?
Also, how old is the battery?
If you would have read the alienware section on this site, you would have seen many people are unhappy with the ship times, but overall they're happy with their systems.
I'd go with the 5550 if your buying a laptop to game on.
I dont think they were overpriced. You get exactly the specs you want. Those three buttons are hotkeys, the far left you set to a program of your choice, the middle opens your default e-mail, and the far right opens your default...

I don't think the sound is that bad at all. Sure it could be better, but it's good enough for me. I turned up the CD volume all the way, and the sound on AOE:III is fine too.
