What resolution are you using for the Sony ? I have a Sony 34xbr910 and have no issues. I use both the DVI and the break out cable.(RGB). I didn't like it for web surfing but dvd playback was great. Lance
I love my 8790 it is alittle heavy. But that is the price to pay. I love the screen even though I only have 1440/900. I would get the larger battery and forget the sub option. Lance
Another update....Took a spare HD installed XP on it. It can now play the music cd's. So now time to reformat the main hd and re-install. Thanks to all who have helped. Lance
More clues...I just found out that I can play the music cd's if I use the InterView DVDPlayer. For some reason that player locks the playing of music cd's from any other program !!!

Just to let everyone know what I did...I went and bought a Creative USB sound card. Solved lots of issue. It has optical out and in which is what I really wanted. Also I no longer hear the hard drive or screen scrolling noise any more.
