i have mx6455 and im having the same problem.no sound and no modem after reinstalling xp and installing all the drivers.but i did find a fix for my sound. good news peepz..you need the ati southbridge driver.you can download it here....

we have the same laptop. i reinstalled xp and re partitioned the hard drive. so i erased the backup drive and after installing xp and all the drivers my sound and modem doesnt work. i downloaded the drivers from gateway but its all crap....
