Don't know. But it's not a security bug. What it looks like Microsoft is trying to do is to keep backwards compatability. They ought to do like Apple and just totally trash anything older than 5 years, and stop all support for it.
I think Dell's position on this is that if it's not an authorized part for that laptop, then yes.
Does it do the same thing on the BIOS and Windows loading screen on bootup?
OK. I think it's safe. I haven't run into a website asking for it yet.
