Things fail for any brand notebook. If you have a chance run Ubuntu linux to verify if it is a hardware or software issue. More then likely is hardware but I have seen OS corruption cause issues...
was your old battery taking the charge but just not lasting long? I am trying to figure out if you have an issue with your charging circuit...

the dc connector might be physically fine. it just might need to be re-soldered...
you can still use it, just have patience when putting it back into the connector with the cable in it. no need to go spend money when you can still use it to lock down the keyboard cable
check to see if the lid switch is getting jammed. I have seen this many times on notebooks. people change lcd's, inverters, cables many times while over looking the simple things...
