Do you have a free copy of Ubuntu Linux? If so, boot off that and see if you get any failure. This can help determine if it is a software or hardware issue. Sounds like it can be software but hard to say without looking at it

the south bridge bga chip failed. I have seen these surge so bad that the traces under the chip are ruined and the board is useless.
