hmm all three tips should work fine, but my question to you is if you bought the laptop used off someone, why not just format and reinstall the OS clean. It would just seem easier that way. Unless your set on having it setup like this....

well its really a matter of preference as to what distro you use.. Personally i prefer slackware, but thats not the easiest to get up and running if your new to nix.. (although its the best way to learn, just not advisable RH9 should...
what stage of boot up does it get too..Where does it hang at? I havent installed nix on the 9100 yet, but i will be soon. And not RH9.. slackware all the way!..

Spiike.. Krylon has a new spray out for plastic.. supposed to eliminate the need for sanding, and what not.. im not sure how good it is though.. might buy a can and give it a test run on a POS compaq Deskpro im modding.
