The cmos battery removal did not work even with the power button pressing/holding, BUT i did manage to get the password reset without spending $155!!! i am in the bios now, there is no cmos jumper and even if there was resetting the cmos...
i did not remove it and press the power button ill do that when i get home though, should i hold the power button?
darn thanks, any idea about the application panel? (media keys at the top of the laptop)
i tried that for about thirty mins. i also looked for jumpers for clearing cmos but no luck either way.
So i got one of these laptops a couple of days ago from a friend and turns out the wifi card is disabled in the bios, the bios is password protected... I have looked into a few passwords they could be from my friend and he cannot...
cool thats about a 2 hour drive from here, how much was it?
thanks again for your help, ive sent some HQ images to a mobo repair friend(another one) and well see how that turns out.
oh alright i see makes sense but if we can find out where i can send the board to a friend who can check it out, but only if i know what is what lol
i have arcticsilver on my cpu and could it be the cpu? the gpu is fine, the linux live cd detects the vid card fine at the right res too. i have a couple other cpus i could try, is it worth it? or would it only be the mobo?
i have a 1tb external that requires a power source other than the sata/usb/firewire it connects to the computer with. id need to be at a wall socket at all times. sucks that this alienware laptop is a 3500$ brick, grats to alienware...
