Having v-synch enabled should not give you any problems. I would strongly recommend you returned or exchanged the laptop as soon as possible. Good luck

By modem drivers i mean the cable modem drivers... Also, have you set your TCP/IP settings to obtain an ip automatically?

Install the modem drivers, i've had the same problem and it was solved by uninstalling the windows plug and play drivers and installing the ones provided with the modem.
