Vista works great on my MBP... everything works fine!
Seems temps (idle) are not quite what I originally thought... idle impovement of ~9-12C with load temps better by about 16C. It has finally had time to warm up fully and settle a bit. Perhaps over the next few days it will get better.

no reason at all... it just uses unnecessary resources. I have my screen go to black after 15mins when plugged in and 5 mins when on battery, no screen saver at all.

98% that is a ram issue. There should be a minidump error log in your system, check the event viewer and see what it says.
This will speed it up fast, I change this reg entry first thing on all my machines. HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop \ MenuShowDelay By default, the value is 400. Change this to a smaller value, such as 0, to speed it up.
