Naw BSOD's during install is almost 100% a ram problem... The OS checks the disk before installation, it will not proceed if the HD is bad in most cases. I would bet the farm it is RAM.

Thought I would post this here, I see lots of folks needing to boot from something OTHER than the HD, to run memtest or whatever. Burning a CD for this purpose is a waste IMO. IF you own a USB thumb drive, it can easily be made...
