Naw BSOD's during install is almost 100% a ram problem... The OS checks the disk before installation, it will not proceed if the HD is bad in most cases. I would bet the farm it is RAM.
YOu first need to go to folder view and make sure that show hidden files is enabled. Look on the root of C:\ there will be a file called boot.ini if you want, copy the contents of the file and paste it here. My XP Pro boot.ini looks...
