have you removed the cover of the wifi bay and made sure that both connectors are connected? i know the cable doesnt go into the LCD chassis, i think it just goes around the outside of the base module

is the drive ejectable - completely removable? if so, you should be able to get any laptop drive, put it in that "chassis" and change the front "door" so it looks the same, though you have a new core of the drive

is your fan/heatsink dirty ? i dont know about the 8600, but the CPU fan on the d800 (same case layout) has a removeable part, and sometimes dust and hair gets stuck between the fan and the heatsink and then it doesnt cool that much
