You are browsing within the review sections of our forums. Content within these sections reflect consumer opinions of laptops. Our admins take the best and most objective laptop reviews and index them here to create a distinct selection of quality reviews with averaged overall ratings. Many of these reviews have benchmarks attached to them which allows for users to compare their laptop's performance with others, and ultimately enables us to provide a sortable list which at a glance show the fastest laptops amongst a variety of applications (gaming, video editing, web browsing, etc...). Help us build a better laptop database by submitting your laptop review.

Inspiron 700m review| the keyboard is fine!

I received my 700m yesterday, june 30th; ordered june 22nd. I have to say that I am very happy with my decision to go with the 700m. What I got:

1.8ghz cpu
1gig ram
60gig hdd
8 cell battery
et cetera
2 year complete care (accidental coverage for peace of mind--starbucks beverages are dangerous).

$1250 shipped next day to hawaii ($89 shipping--no free shipping for those living in paradise). Would have been about $200 less without the 2 year warranty.

I read just about every review out there, here and everywhere else, before deciding to go with it, and spent the 7 days waiting for it to arrive worrying whether I had made a mistake. My main concern was over the keyboard, but really, it's not half bad. I have about average sized hands and can do about 80 wpm accurately on the i700m, which is close to what I do normally. This is only after a few hours usage. It'll only get easier. One would have to have pretty big, fat fingers to really dislike the keyboard enough for it to discourage the purchase.

It should also be noted that I have never owned, or even really ever properly used, a laptop before, so I am having to get used to a lot more than just the fact that the "." "," and "?" keys are undersized, and I still like it (AND I am very fussy).

Anyway, just thought I would share my experience. The 700m is definately worth considering, especially if you already have a powerful desktop machine. I hardly notice the extra weight in my backpack, and with 5 hours battery life, it might not even be necessary for some people to even carry along the ac unit. I feel foolish for having been so worried. The keyboard is fine, nice even. The touchpad feels great to use, and with a 12" screen I might not even bother buying a mouse. This thing just feels so usable.

It only gets better. Pretty soon, your desktop will be covered in dust from lack of use and you'll be laying on the bed, 700m balanced on your belly slurping down a beer and watching TV while surfing the net.

(at least that's how it worked out for me. )
