Groove75 is a n00b, but everyone loves n00bs!
As everyone has already said: Get more ram and Overclock your card. You'll see a big improvement at that point.

Off hand I recommend a reformat and re-install to clear out Dell's junk, then follow this guide: http://www.tweaktown.com/document.ph...review&dId=324

Note that there is the full edition on Koroush's site, www.tweakguides.com , but that guide is much more concise. After that, undervolt your CPU and overclock the hell out of your 6800Go (use the guides here for both of those). Finally, www.tweakguides.com has guides for most major games to get them running perfectly. I think I might write a small tweak guide to get people going .

hold your horses! You mean that I "save" power from the cpu so I can overclock more to the GPU? or only undervolt so there is less heat generation? And is it risky to undervolt? and how do I do ? thx...

You are running on ULTRA with 512MB of memory and you wonder why your performance is lacking?! Jesus Christ.

Get another GB of memory, and set the quality to High, and you should be fine.

read the posts again pal. I'm surprised it runs this good with 512 on ultra and no overclock. It runs really good at ultra after a minute or so.

schrive, if you want to play with 512MB, that's fine, all we're saying is you don't know what you're missing by going to 1.5GB+. Do whatever you want my man, she's your laptop.

mastah, when you undervolt the CPU it just generates less heat, resulting in a cooler running laptop. The 6800Go overclocks the same as it is voltage limited, but you'll be running much cooler at your max clocks, which is much better for the overall health of the system.

i had the same problem playing doom and half-life, it was fixed when i purchased a kingston 1gb for my 9300, and the laggin has stopped. more ram helps load the frames you see on screen thus less to no lag.

On a side note, I've been running 77.30 (BF2 Beta drivers) for my Geforce 6800, and everything I've run has been smooth, WOW been pushing 60+ fps. Well until I decided to upgrade my drivers to the new 80.40 release, all my scores plummeted to 20fps in game. I rolled back the drivers to 77.30s and i'm back into the 60s now, can't explain why it does it, but you may try an older driver version.

80.40's work fine here, did you do a clean install when you upgraded?

I'm running a 2 ghz xps with 1 gb ram, stock drivers and such, at 1900x1220, high settings, and it's good, except when I open some doors, and the end of RoE is kinda chugging. Is this normal for a non-oc'ed xps, or do I need to do some tweaking. I'm not really using aa

At 1920x1200 that's normal. I go down to 30FPS (1440x900, 2xAA, 8xAF) or so in some places at the end of ROE too. The graphics in ROE have been beefed up a little more from Doom 3, so performance is less in it, but still quite good.
