the m170 has a much better gpu also... lol... you cannot compair an x600 and a 6800 or 7800 together... its a slaughter...

BTW: Dont be too full of yourself, its not that its a dell laptop it does well, its because of the GPU...

I had a Zd7000 I loved it and hated it. Are the Zd8000 better? I know the Zd7000 had bad heat problems and power connect troubles.

This is somewhat concerning to me. I planned to get a zd8000, but this 3DMark05 score of 1591 is very low (@vboy720 what options did you get when you bought your zd8000? Proc and GPU wise). The "new" Dv4000 gets nearly 2.500 in 3DMark05.

Will HP release a new 17" model in the near future (I have time to wait till 10th January), with x700 or maybe even x800 GPU, because the zd8000 is really outdated.

Unless HP/Compaq releases a lappy with a minimum of a 256mb 6800 GO then it isnt going to perform that awful well with the new games coming out. The x700 is lacking the power to play BF2, FEAR, Quake 4 etc etc on high settings. Please dont think I am in here cutting on them because I am not. HP makes some very nice laptops thats for sure.

Hey, the x700 should perform just fine. I have a decked-out Compaq X6000 with a 256MB x600 in it. I can play FEAR on high settings w/ shadows turned off, and same with Quake 4. Plays BF2 pretty sweetly too, cept it keeps crashing on my system for some reason. I've also gotten a score of 1728 in 3DMark05 with the new omega drivers. An x700 would be kickass in this thing cause it has 8 pipes, and i think the x600 only has 4.

If HP doesn't come up with stg quick, I'll go with FS Amilo M3438, which outperforms the zd8000 in every aspect. 3DMark3005 (zd8000, about 1.500, FS Amilo 3.700)

Are you guys using a PCMIA sound card? I have the zd8000 with a 256mb x600 and some of the games are locking when allot of sound starts to pick up. Using the Omega Drivers too. Thinking if I had a sound card other than the onboard (I know rigs big time but notebook technology is new) it'll be better. You can have a 9800pro in a desktop but if your using any onboard other than soundstorm you'll stuuter so the sound can keep up with the game.
