I have the Toshiba SD-R6472 and it seems to not like to finish burning CDs all of a sudden. I can burn and watch DVDs but the CDs are the ones that are giving me fits. I dunno what it is cause my DVDs play fine.. However burning a dvd is taking twice as long now

Have either of you used a cleaning CD/DVD lately. I'm taking about the "Dry" kind that has brushes on it. They do work and often solve some problems.

Nope I did not try that yet. So, you want me to try clean the lense using the brush?

No, the cleaning CD/DVD - If you use a brush, by itself, you might cause things to become misaligned.

Also be careful of the media you are using.

You may also want to go to the Toshiba site and update your drive's firmware.

Hope this helps

Uninstall the device in Windows and then reboot. It should be reinstalled by Windows after everything has completed. What type of CD/DVD write/management software is on the laptop?
