Fujitsu 3530 "Lifebook" (lol) laptop review

Well, since I have learned so much from reading on this site, I thought it only fair to contribute a little something of my own.. a short review of the Fujitsu 3530 laptop. You will notice this review looks a lot like the review of the 3510... because, they are very much alike, so I lifted that review, and made changes as appropriate.

Chassis/Build/Apearance:
Laptop build is very solid/sturdy. Definitely high quality plastic. It’s kind of heavy/thick for a 15.4” notebook, but feels as sturdy as a rock.

It is mostly black in color with some silver outlining.

Keyboard/Touchpad:
The keyboard is good, I like the feel, no complaints.

Touchpad is kind of small, but works well. Fujitsu has an “autodisable” feature where once an external mouse is detected, it automatically can turn off the touchpad. Also comes with an Application/Multimedia panel on the right of the keyboard which comes in handy.

Speakers/Sound:
Speakers are quite loud for a 15.4” laptop. There is no subwoofer, just two speakers in the front under the palmrest. There is a volume control in the upper right side of the keyboard. Personally, I find the volume control buttons to be kind of lame, because they pop up a cheesy volume graphic on the screen, but whatever.

Display:
This is THE strongest point in this notebook. Let me say this, after looking at all the different laptops out there... in person... this is the best screen on any laptop. Let me say that again - as of the time of this writing, it cannot be surpassed. I know, you think I haven't seen YOUR laptop, and it's even better. No. It's not, OK? This one is better, sorry, yours is not the best.

This screen looks fake it's so clear and sharp. And it's so bright that after being on it for more than a couple hours, it hurts my eyes.

Graphics/Performance:
It's crap - the x1400 hypermemory card. I ended up returning the laptop because of this. It's just crap. When a 2 year old game drops to 20 FPS, that is ridiculous.

Battery Life:
I was able to watch a DVD for about 2.5 hours before the battery gave out at the brightest screen level and power management features enabled. If the screen brightness is lowered more battery life can be sustained.

Fan Noise/Cooling:
The fan’s exaust to the back of the unit, and cannot be heard at all at idle temperatures. During gaming, fans run faster, and are a little loud, I think. Overall the system runs very quiet.

No heat can be detected under either palmrest.

In conclusion:

Build quality is very good.
Screen quality raises the bar against which all others should be judged.
The video card sucks.
If I didn't play the ocassional game, I would have kept it.
I do play games ocassionally, so I returned it.
If you are looking for an amazing, CRT quality screen laptop though... this is the one.
