Evesham Quest Nemesis SLI 17", 512MB GPUs!
Okay so it finally arrived yesterday. I haven't had time to take any piccies etc.., so you've only got my initial impressions.
I got 2 x 512MB 7900 GS 2GB RAM Twin 100GB 7200 drives in Raid 0 From the outside the Evesham Nemesis logo on the back is embarassing, such a shame, you can see the wrinkles on the paper behind the sticky thing holding it on. I mean come on, £2k ($4k) on a lappie and it's got this blob on the back, such a shame. But anyhow, open it up and wow, I mean wow, the screen is absolutely gorgeous. I have an Dell XPS2, and the screen on the Nemesis is much nicer, darker blacks, more vibrant colours, and the definition is incredible. The 'look' of the screen and keyboard when the machine is off is absolutely gorgeous, just don't close the lid and all is good!!!! Okay so onto some games, the first I loaded is GRAW, because I love it (Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter) and because it's very demanding graphically. I set it up on 1920 x 1200 with all options maxed, thinking it will never be smooth, oh my lord it plays beautifully!!!!! So I load up 3dMark05, and out of the box (no changes / no cleanup / no latest drivers etc..) I'm getting 9634. I'm confident of getting this above the 10k. So next on a high I load up EQ2, because I love it, and set it to 1920 x 1200 on Extreme Quality, and it plays okay!!!!! Okay to get smooth I have to notch it down one setting, but omg still it looks absolutely amazing. So all in all I'm in awe of the laptop. I'm very happy. It's basically the same as the M9700 from Alienware, except you get a nicer 'outside' on the AW. Now if I could just find the person in Evesham that thought the Nemesis logo was a good idea in a dark alley one night, all would be good ![]() UKB ![]() |

Glad you've got your laptop now, though, and that it's working well ![]() You should have no problems breaching 10k in 3DMark05 with the right tweaks - OK so you might not go as extreme as I did with overvolting it ![]() Step 1 is to reinstall and get rid of the rubbish Evesham 'Bug notification' software, blech!

Hi all,
This is my first post...... Really thinking about going for the Quest nemesis myself, you seem to be pretty happy with them, would you recommend them???? They seem like a really good buy for price.... Just out of curiosity how easy is it to change the memory chips, do you have to dismantle the case of are they easily accesible from a panel underneath..?? Thanks Dave.. |
