top half lcd lid swapXPS 170-1710

I want to know if anyone has done this swap on xps laptops. I am posting a horror story of a 4 month system exchange, which I just got yeasterday. I now have to get another exchange because the exchange they sent me was a refurb, not a new one like they promised. I will be posting a word document soon that shows all conversations between Dell and myself. It will be a horror show, but a good read. Anywhoo. I love my m170 lid. I recieved the black top on the 1710 and it was just terrible. The 170 looks a hell of a lot better. The 1710 I got the top seemed really dull and the plastic rap was not on so I know that was not the problem with the dullness. I am curious if they are all dull and not shiny like the m170 or if they maybe used a cleaner on it when touching up the refurbed 1710. Has anyone had both and seen the same thing or is the 1710 just as shiny as the m170. Anywhoo, if its not I want to swap the top half of the chrome 170 over and switch it to and change the 1710 black. Has anyone done this. Do the dowl holes line up the same? Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you. Stay tuned for the horror word doc. But in the end, even thouh its taken almost 5 months, I will get the core 2 duo and the go 7900 GTX upgrade from the go 7800 GTX in my old machine. Best anyone can do considering DX10 is on its way soon. Ya they sent me the 7900 gs in the new machine, but after a month of debate and spec proof that my onl 7800 GTX was better than the 7900 gs they agreed to send me the 7900 GTX. (better I instal it anyways. Can add thermal paste to GPU)By the way,FYI, 56 emails regarding this back and forth. to get this exchange and adding more since they sent me the refurb instead of new. Nice eh. Best of luck to all and see you on the NBF flip side

Yes they will swap out. No the 1710 is a brushed design not a polished design so it will not be shiny. I guess they screwed up when they said you were getting a "new" system because most exchanges after the first 21 days are refurbished. Considering how much of an upgrade it is I wouldn't complain about a refurb myself, not worth the hassle.

Thanks for the brushed finish info. I understand the 21 day thing, but when you read the BS I will be posting you will understand. To much to explain in this post. They are in process of sending a new on like they promissed. Another reason, my laptop now appearance wise is mint out of box condition. Not the slightest mark or scratched, the refurebed was all chipped and scratched. Homy don think so. Wack on Mike dells head. Even with the upgrades it almost wasnt worth the headaches and 4 months of BS but f.e.a.r will tell after a few rounds of mp.
