johncons is a n00b, but everyone loves n00bs!
Extended warranty might have been an option if somebody offered it down here. The rules are different for Eastern Europe, like always
Plus you say that the more advanced piece of technology a notebeook is, the more probability it gets broken.. I would understand if motherboard died after say 5 years of usage, but only after a year... No excuses for Acer

ok i hope you guys read this on time but here it goes.

1) yes its the mb problem and its common. how common? well all the victims here + mine. in fact mine is in repair as i write this. so its on its way being fixed.

2) READ THIS!!!!!>>>>> YOU GUYS HAVE A 30DAY GRACE PERIOD TO STILL PURCHASE EXTENDED WARRANTY AFTER YOUR ORIGINAL EXPIRES!!!!!! CALL ACER TECH UP AND TELL THEM PLEASE I FORGOT TO REALIZE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AND I WOULD LIKE TO PURCHASE A WARRANTY FROM ACER. I 'THINK' YOU CAN GET ONE FROM NEWEGG AND STILL ACTIVATE IT WITHIN 30DAYS AFTER THE ORIGINAL EXPIRES. THE TECH SUPPORT REP DIRECTLY TOLD ME THIS!!! SO IF THEY ARE DENYIN IT.. PM ME AND I'LL FORWARD YOU MY INFORMATION AND MAYBE THAT'LL HELP AS THEY HAVE ALL THE NOTES ABOUT ME IN THEIR SYSTEM.

3) MY WARRANTY expired in July 06. I got my extended warranty activated just last friday (thats approx three months). The company i purchased my extended warranty from (ordered online 2 days BEFORE my warranty expired) messed up my order. delaying= too late then my laptop gave me the same problem last week and im like shit i should of went after the company who sold me the warranty cuz i just gave up. i thought getting the extended warranty is useless. WRONG! so i called acer up again and told em the company messed up the order and they told me that 'as long as you can show proof that you purchased the warranty before your expiration, we can activate the warranty still' so i had my bank proof that i did try to purchase one and then i ordered another one quick.

so i was lucky.

goodluck guys! ferrari's are awesome and i hope they have fixed this issue in their latest motherboards.

actually. YES!!!!! this is my second time its in. last time they've said it was power inverter inside that went out? i dont know last time i left my laptop on and went out came back home to see that my laptop is blank. the lights were still on (bluetooth, wireless) / power plugged in.

second time (this time) i went out.. came back home, saw the laptop was running low of battery, so i plugged my ac adapter in and then all of the sudden screen went blank.

i think its definitely the graphics card maybe heating up and burning out. maybe its a good solution if we open it up and put are own adhesive grease between the contact of the heatsink and the gpu so the heat is transfered better.

And I hope you don't mind me saying this, but because of this, you then went out and bought an extended warranty?

I agree with you, the Ferrari is an awesome machine. I still wouldn't want to use any other laptop, even though there are some great ones out there.

no to be honest, my intentions were to extend my manufactures warranty before it expired but since the company messed up my order, i did pursue to go about reordering it. but yea once my laptop went out.. i went back to the company to honor my original purchase since they were technically at fault originally.

Thanks for the info! Hopefully someone will be able to use this info should the inevitable happen to them as well. My warranty expired 5 months ago so im kicking myself for not getting the extra warranty when I still could. Everyone who hasn't bought an extended warranty yet should really be thinking about doing it or end up regretting it later on.

Im looking at some barebones laptops right now to put my old Ferrari parts into. Asus is looking like the winner so far.

I shipped it out saturday thru Usps Priority Mail. Acer recieved the package monday. They repaired and shipped it back out Tuesday. and i am getting it back today =)

Im in texas so the service center is only 200mi away approx. thats why its processed faster.

They replaced the motherboard. I think it is the graphics chipset that burned out. because when i plugged in the ac adapter, you know how the screen flickers (ati chipset changing perfoamance profiles), well my educated guess would be that it burned the chipset somehow. Thats why no video on boot.

But the ac adapter was also making a little buzzin sound when you first plugged the adapter in to the laptop so i complained about that and now they are sending a new adapter as well.

Okay, here's my story Got mine laptop back from the service center on Tuesday. Everything seemed to be ok except for the wireless - it couldn't find any wireless networks, although there were pretty many of them around. I noticed that the wireless button behaved quite strangerly - blinking with not so bright light as it used to be. Okay, I tryed to disabe and enable wireless by pressing the button and windows just froze. This happened every time I tryed to diactivate and then reactivate the adapter.

All right, I then spent an entire day trying to figure out what was causing the problem. My assuption was - drivers. Reinstalled everything I might possibly think of - no results. Okay, Restored everything back to factory defaults - no results. Okay, installed WinXP x64 edition - the same problem. That's when I finally thought that the problem was related to hardware. Wireless network card, maybe?

Okay, took wireless card from my second Acer Aspire (the card is identical to the one installed in Ferrary), no result. The card working in Aspire refused to work with Ferrari. Went back to the service center. They told that it could be deffective motherboard and they would try to replace it, this time for free.. Okay, but I again need to wait another week or so to get the laptop back.

So; any of you experiencing problems with wireless after the repair should now know what to do I'll keep this updated when I hopefully get Ferrari back working like it should have always been..
