I removed them. Basically once they are removed you take a piece of cloth and you wet it. Then you use that to remove any residue.
I used a small blade that I had to remove them. You should take extreme caution so as not to damage the laptop handrest. I managed to make a small mark on it (a small 1mm mark but still)

Bring laptop to the kitchen sink and put stickers under the stream of hot water
Just kidding. Plastic knife of fast-food origin works nicely to remove stickers. Then you'll need to remove the glue residue a cloth as Psychotic_UK said.

I love my celeron M and Windows XP sticker. if I removed them It might confuse people that I had a fast computer which then it would be more desirable to steal!
BTW I have a acer 9503 which is the slowest 17inch laptop I know of, besides apples G4 |

I leave mine alone. Have added a Linux inside sticker as I have a couple of Linux
distros tripple booting with XP Pro. Just added the Core 2 Duo sticker. I also have labels with my custom DNS servers url's and my XP serial number as well as my Acer serial. Isopropyl alcohol will remove the glue residue safely.

As you all know, the plastic stickers come off pretty easily. The only issue is the Windows XP sticker. I have found a reliable way of removing this without marking the laptop.
NOTE: When using isopropyl alcohol, which is rubbing alcohol, make sure to buy the unscented kind. The scented kind leaves an oily film behind. Windows XP Label/Sticker Removal HowTo: Requirements: Masking tape - the least sticky kind you can find. I think painters masking tape (the blue kind) might be best. One Sided Carpenter's Chisel - The key is the thickness of the blade, and the angle of the bevel. A thick knife is not the same, as you don't have leverage after the bevel. And just so you know, I do have a double-sided chisel. It has an identical bevel on both sides, but the bevel is at a much shallower angle. It's for carving relief work. Procedure: 1. Put a piece of masking tape as close as you can next to the metal sticker. This will protect the case from the metal tool. Put two layers, if you're nervous. 2. Using the chisel upside-down (bevel down towards the laptop), carefully slide the sharp edge under the edge of the sticker. You only need it to tuck under enough so you can get some purchase on the sticker. It may seem you're barely in contact with the sticker, but that's enough, if the chisel is sharp. 3. Gently push down on the handle of the chisel. The edge of the label should pop up, and you'll be able to pull the rest of it off with your fingers, or a pair of pliers. If the chisel slips, repeat step two, but put the edge of the chisel a little further under the edge of the sticker, making sure to slide the chisel on the masking tape, and not apply pressure to the handle at this stage. You just want the blade to get some purchase under the edge. You're not trying to get the label off by slicing it with the chisel. 4. If you get a corner up, but the sticker is resisting (perhaps it's been on there a long time with your hand resting on it), you can put some alcohol on a paper towel, or a cotton bud (Kleenex works, but sheds a lot of particles), and work it under the sticker, while pulling on the sticker. This may seem slow, but it's a tiny sticker. You'll be done in no time, and a perfect result is always nice. Hope this helps someone. Last edited by CareyB; 11-23-2006 at 07:43 AM. |

Lol, i have a ferrari 4005 and i just ripped the xp sticker off. Didn't use any water or knife or isoporpanol. The area underneath looks fine, but you can see a little outline of where the sticker used to be.
