Dilemma XPS vs Macbook Pro

To make a long story short:

I currently own a Dell XPS M1710. I've owned it for about a month and don't use it at all. I use my Desktop more than anything for my gaming. So I was thinking of selling my M1710 to buy a Macbook Pro CD2. Not to long ago I did own the MacBook Pro CD and ended up returning it because of how hot it ran. Also I found out that the ATI X1600 video card was underclocked which didn't make me too happy. So here are some concerns before I put my M1710 for sale.

1. Has the heat issue been resolved with the Core 2 Duo?
2. Does Apple still have the ATI video card underclocked?
3. How does World of Warcraft play in OSX and bootcamp?
4. Are there any new models due out anytime soon?

I mainly use my laptops for internet, email, photoshop, and gaming mainly only WOW.

MSFT is a n00b, but everyone loves n00bs!
1) Last time I used the MBP, heat didn't seem to be an issue. But I only used it for about 2.5 hours doing some semi-intensive work.

2) I have no clue.

3) WoW is awesome in OS X. If you want Windows then just keep your M1710. You have an awesome machine that can do everything the MBP can do, but 4x better. I say this because you didn't list any sound/video creation or editing in the things that you do, so your 1710 is more than capable to take care of the things you need.

4) As for the MBP, there may be some updates in late Q1/early Q2 of 2007 but I have yet to hear something from rumor sites.

as far as i know..

1) yes
2) yes but it now runs just a hair under normal - can be over clocked to standard speed very easily in windows (bootcamp) with good results, however even at stock under clocked speeds i don't think you will have any trouble running WoW http://www.maconintel.com/news.php?article=178
3) i don't know, but i would have to say it probably runs the same under boot camp as a windows pc would with the same specs
4) no idea

i think the mac has much more to offer than the xps, with the exception of the video card of course.

the mac is sexier, smaller, runs both osx/xp, is probably cheaper, quieter.

that should do it. if all you play is WoW, youll be happy with the pro. as for photoshop, well cs3 is coming soon, or u can just use windows.

Go with the Pro. I have a few friends who still have their G4 powerbooks and Apple still makes sure that those models are fully supported.

Dell puts out new models every 6 months and almost drops support for the older models. However, I just picked up a MBP and I really am impressed with it so far.

Congrats on your new MBP. Are you going to dual boot OSX and XP?

What are the issues with heat on the Core Duo models? Is it fixable? I just picked up a Core Duo MBP, and you guys are making me worry.

Thanks,
Shawn

I would go for the MBP. Or if you could get the Dell XPS 1710 and like run OSX on it, theres a guy in the Dell section who ran OSX on his Dell XPS Gen 2 I think. But I would go with the MBP, but if you wanna game, then XPS 1710.

don't bother with osx86 (mac on a windows pc). the chances of it running without some sort of hardware incompatibility are slim.
