LCD Problem HELP!!!

Hey guys i have a Compal CL56 notebook. Recently out of no where the screen turned completely black but i can barely see the image of my computer if i look really close. Also if i hit the button that tells that the lcd is open the screen flashes on and i see everything for a second then goes back to being black. How can i fix this!!! I have been reading that it might be somethign called the inverter that has caused the problem or that i need an entirely new lcd! Please someone help me!!!

Sounds like the inverter or the backlight itself is bad, since you can see a faint image it doesn't sound like the lcd or video card
