Startup problems with Clevo D470V

Hi there, have a Clevo D470V all the right lights come on when I switch it on, HDD spins once or twice, after a few minutes all the fans come on as well. But nothing else. Tried the Li battery nothing. Also tried the HDD on another laptop, seems to be ok. Changed RAM as well no change. CPU gets warm (current seems to be flowing. Tried a different power adaptor and with and without battery pack. All the same results. Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed. Cheers Harry

You never actually said what it does.

Does nothing come up on the screen at all?
Does it POST?

Does the computer actually seem to start up but there is no video?

No video:
Maybe your backlight is out? Either plug in a VGA monitor and see if that works, or try shining a flashlight on the screen. Can you see faint images? If so, your backlight is not turning on.

Hi sorry,

yes nothing comes up inthe screen. Tried the external monitor..nothing. It just doesn't seem to start up at all. No activity after the two spins of the HDD.

Cheers

Hi there, I had the same problem way back in 2004. Had to send it back to Sager for repair under warranty.
They stated that the "hinges" that hold the LCD-screen had cracks, but it seems to me that the screen backlight was broken.

After they repaired my D470V I had the same problem again after a few days , but tapping the whole notebook (start gently) on my leg gave the following result. Backlight came back on! Also they were so kind to update the bios to the latest version

You could also try to unscrew your Clevo and check all wires, especially the flat lead that connects the LCD to the motherboard, if they are firmly inserted into place.

My system: (from System Info © Gabriel Topala)

Property Value
Manufacturer Clevo, Co.
Model D400V/D470V
Version SS78B
Serial Number None
Chipset Model SiS648 CPU to PCI Bridge
Chipset Vendor Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS)

BIOS Version PTLTD - 6040000
BIOS Revision: 1.0A.01s
KBC/EC Revision: 1.00.04
KBC/EC Revision: 1.00.04
PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0
Ver 1.00PARTTBL
BIOS Date 06/25/04

Hope this will help.

Regards,

Manuel
