Winbook

I have a Winbook that has a 1.9Ghz P4 in it that I think is bad. The machine runs fine for a little bit and then completely locks up after a little use. The only way to get it going is to do a hard shut down and then wait for 10-15 minutes and it will restart again. I am no computer tech. but it sounds like a heat issue to me and when I took it apart I found that the heatsink looks like it got really hot at some point.

My questions are:

1. Could a processor run for a while until it gets hot and then lock up, or would it just stop working all at once?

2. I have found several 1.7 and 1.8 processors on ebay for very resonable prices that would justify buying one just to see if it worked. Can I put a lower Ghz processor in it with no problems?

Thanks,

Steve
