I have the s6210...is it still the same material and build quality as the s6231?
That's why i asked about the creakiness...because my laptop feels plasticy. |

I'm not sure if the materials are the same. Pictures of the two look similar, but there are definitely noticeable differences as well. I know mine feels solid; much more so than an HP or a Dell in my opinion. Also, despite Acer's reputation for decent build quality, I wasn't too impressed compared to this little machine. Then again, it's easier to be sturdy under torque when you're smaller...
Of course, this thing isn't a rock. It is made of hard plastics for the most part (I believe the silver material in the lid and along the sides is an alloy however). BUT, if you're looking for something of better quality, the only thing I'd point you toward is an IBM.

Is there a button or a way to disable the touchpad in the settings? In the review of 6210 that ender9010 wrote, he said there is a button to disable the mouse.
Does NE1 know what is the rpm of the hard drive is from New Egg, 4200, or 5400? I know you can customize from it from P1, but can't find anything about New Egg? I played around with the 6231 at Frys, wasn't to impressed with the keyboeard, had audible clicksand seemed kind of springy, contrary to reviews. Lid had noticeable creaking sound. Is this possibly because it's a display model, or have others experienced these probs ? I'm debating right now between the Asus M3NP and the Fujitsu, seem to be good reviews on both.

I am not experiencing any problems that you are describing, I still use this laptop and I love it, although I am thinking about getting something even smaller (wide 12.1) and possibly with a bluetooth, everything has bluetooth these days and too bad this laptop doesn't have it built in. It still feels solidly build lappy.

Hey Klas, how is the sound of the optical drive when watching a dvd?
Is it still loud, or is it only loud when you are installing apps? What kind of battery life do you get when watching a dvd??

Thanks for the quick reply Klas. I know some notebook speakers are hard enough to hear the sound as it is, let alone if you add a loud fan to the equasion.
I guess I should have asked if the fan was so loud that it drowns out the sound of the movie? //////////////////////////Update//////////////////////////////////////////////////////// I took the plunge and ordered the 6231 from P1. Will let you know how I like it once I get it.

Fujitsu S6231
Was looking for a smaller lighter replacement to my plagued Toshiba 6100 (which is an abysmal machine).
I had a budget of $1800 to $2300 to spend and I chose this Fujtisu. I ordered it Fujitsu direct... anyone know if their lead times are accurate? I ordered it over the weekend, and the acknowledgement of order stated ship date should be the 11th. Today was the 11th... I know it didn't ship because they didn't bill my CC yet! I hope they don't jerk around, as this is a business-use machine! I'm feeling pretty positive about it by reviews so far. Also, can anyone tell me, does Fujitsu actually manufacture their own machines from the ground up, or are they like so many of the others that use Compal, Asus, Quanta, Uniwill and others? Thanks! |

I believe Fujitsu is an odm. Mine shipped pretty quickly to the states. Within a couple days after I placed my order from P1. It had to be shipped from Fujitsu to San Jose because it was custom configured. The longest wait was go in the states and it was held up in the midwest for an FDA inspection.

I have been debating whether or not to get the S6231. The one and only reason holding me back is the touchpad. Apparently, this model uses the ALPS touchpads, which are known to be inferior to the Synaptics touchpads. Does anybody care to comment on the S6231 touchpad and whether this should be my deciding factor?
