Drank a few beers and orderd a Lenovo :(

I have always been interested in a small laptop with a very powerful video card. I think Lenovo has finally created one. They make a 14" laptop with a Nvidia 570m, which is at least the equal of a 8600gt. I can finally get decent battery life on an airplane, and play some FPS on AC power.

I was ready to pull the trigger on a D630, but this was $100 more with a faster cpu and 2x the video card

I've been a Dell laptop guy for a while, and I have Inspiron 9300 and x300 laptops. I was the guy that figured out how to order a 7800gtx on the cheap from Dell for the 9300 Several thousand readers in these forums must have upgraded! Check my sig. I'm going to miss that beast!
The 9300 is a bear to lug around for work, and the x300 doensn't have the pop to run Dragon Medically Speaking. I almost ordered a D630, but went for a T61p instead! I'll pick up a 200gb 7200rpm hitachi from newegg , 4gb from Crucial, 9 cell oem battery from ebay once it gets here, and ebay the old laptops and spare parts. What do you think of this config? I used an Amex offer to get an extra 10% off.

I'm pretty sure the 570M in the 14" model is only 128MB, so it's really going to hold you back at decent resolutions. I had also seriously considered Lenovo but with the 15" model, but in the end I decided to hold out for at least another generation of CPUs and GPUs. I'm definitely going to pass on dual core and 8x00 series of GPUs since quad core and 9x00 series are just around the corner. By the time I actually need to upgrade I will hopefully be able to get a machine 2-3x faster than my Gen2 for under $2000.

Congats, nice notebooks the T61p's,so damn expensive where I live though.Thinking of getting one of those 16mb Hitachi's myself as from what I've read its a good step up in speed over the last Gen 7k100.

Thus begging the question, why is this in the Dell forum? This is going to the lenovo forum.

Hmmm...

I put it in the Dell forum since I wanted to let Dell users know that a Dell user found a unique laptop that they may be interested in. Dell certainly doesn't make a 5lb 14" notebook with a 8600gt equivalent.

NBF doesn't like people who try to advise people regardless of brand. Migration from section to section is also discouraged.
