This sounds like a common yet odd thing that NP8890s have.

I power my box off during the night and leave it plugged in (BUT I turn the power strip off).

So, technically there's NO power.

Now, in the morning when I hit the power button (First on the strip then the NP8890) ONLY the charge/power lights come on it sounds like it powers up, but the LCD is dead.

I have to unplug the power coard, then hit the power button (when it's fully off), for it to 'power-up'. Then hook the power back up to it (fix the LCD brightness) and things fine.

Then it works fine.

My question is should this be a return/contact issue or is this something else trivial of how you operate the machine?

Try unplugging the power in the back of the laptop and then see if it still happens. Just wondering why you need to turn the power strip off.

i have the same issue. it usually happends when it fails to come up after being in suspend mode. the light stops flashing, however, nothing shows up on the screen...so i would hold down the power button to shut it down. after waiting 30 seconds i would push power...and still nothing will come up. the only way i could turn it back on is to unplug the power cord...then plug it back in...then push the power button.

I think the first reply to the post was read.

When I said I unplug the power cable I mean the one on the back of the NP8890 and then back in and it comes back up.

The second reply to this post is exactly the same issue I'm having. Have you contacted Sager about this yet?

BTW I've had this happen under S.u.S.E Linux 9.1 Professional and Win2K.

I have suspsend / APM turned off since it's a stand alone machine currently. (This means the M$ bull**** and powerd etc with Linux.)

This just started happing to me, turns on fine with out be plug in but if its plug in has trouble have to hit the power button like 5+ times to get it to turn on. did yall get yours fixed?

And it's just happened to me Any resolutions?!

I think I've found the problem - after lots of fiddling around, the problem seemed to resolve itself when I removed the RAM, cleaned the contacts and put them back in.

My system properties is now showing 512 RAM though, so I'm guessing it's a fault with one of the sticks. Try removing the RAM one stick at a time (when the machine is OFF!) and cleaning the contacts. Boot up with just one - then try the other and then both.

It worked for me.

Resetting the RAM did the trick for me. All works just fine now!

Hey Gellert, glad to hear you're sorted. Just out of curiosity, is your RAM at full capacity since you reseated them? I appear to be running at half, so I'm guessing one's dead

I have 1 stick of memory in my Sager, which is 1 GB. The other slot is empty. I've read on here that my model maxes out at 1GB ram so if I were to add another 1GB module, it wouldn't help or show up as 2GB installed because of the BIOS setting. I guess having 2GB RAM in 2003, when the laptop was made was, was considered overkill lol

I have 2gig of RAM in my 8890 - works fine and is recognised correctly. The hardware can't address any more than 2gig though.

I finally had the chance to open my 8890 up and test my ram. After extensive testing, it's not my ram that's faulty, it's one of the slots. On the right slot, both sticks work fine, but as soon as I use the left slot (either with or without ram in the right one), I get the same thing as described earlier.

Has anyone ever had a faulty ram slot before? Any suggestions?
