U100 Hard Drive Replacement
Has anyone replaced the HD in their U100/105? I have been looking at the new Toshiba 1.8in 100gb drives, but it appears they have a ZIF connect and the U100/105 requires a standard ATA6 connector. Has anyone done it? Any assistance on identifying a HD and/or proper disassembly is appreciated.

Well, looks like no U100 owners out there. Too bad. Well, I will morph my question a bit... What is the largest 1.8" drive with an ATA6 connector. I am hoping for at least 5400rpm, but will look at 4200rpm as well. Thanks.

Hey,
I did disassemble my U105 (because of curiosity). I did not look at the HDD connector closely but I think it was CF (Compact Flash) style connector. BTW, does anyone have repair or service manual for U100/U105? I am considering disassembling the display lid and painting it different color and I dont see any screws on it. |

Any hints on dismantling U105 or U100?

I'm interested in eventually swapping the hard drive in my U100, so I tried loosening all the screws in the base and easing the cover to get the feel of it. It seemed loose everywhere except around the corner where the SD slot is. I've still got 3 months warranty left so don't want to be too aggressive just yet. I'd really appreciate any tips from your experience. |

poke around, pry about, but not forcing it. many times there are hidden screws underneath plastic parts, or just plain snapin latches
would u take some pics of ur project and share with the next gals/guys? cheers ...

U100 Manual

Main tips when taking the U100 apart are: - GO SLOW - Have some pots and labels ready for the screws - there are many of them and they are small little sods and easily mixed up. - Have some small needle nose pliers around - they are useful for removing the various connectors. I'm also interested in replacing the hard drive but only if I can find a suitable drive of 100GB+ |
