IBM Thinkpad X41 2525-6HU Impressions

Just got an X41 model number 2525-6HU with 1.5 / 512 ram/ 60gb HD and I am so far REALLY happy with it. I also have an X40 (wife's) with 1.1 / 768 ram / 20gm HD and the 41 is much much more snappy. I haven't done any really comparison side by side yet but overall the 41 seems like a nice improvement...boot time is faster on the 41 or at least seems to be...and loading prog's etc. is quite a bit faster. The proc difference between the two machines is pretty big I guess but I wasn't really thinking I would notice the difference so much. Build quality, screen etc. they seem about equal to me so far. I haven't reloaded the OS yet so I expect even a little more improvement once I get rid of some of the bloatware (although it seems like there is a lot less of this then came on my Dell 6000D).

I did load EQ on it and can play at 1024 x 768 (low settings) with better performance than 800 x 600 on the X40...it appears like the GMA 900 is also a very noticeable improvement of the extreme graphics 2.

Out of the box...the 8 cell is showing 3:58 on a fully chaged 8 cell battery.

So far I couldn't be happier with this machine...considering I was shooting mainly for portability. Fortunately, I don't need / want an optical drive for the road so for me this isn't at all a negative.

I have the X41 Tablet version and loving every minute of it. The battery lasts longer in the tablet than non tablet version. I constantly use it for note taking, draw graphs and charts, which it's almost impossible to do without a tablet. I only have a small complaint about X40, X41, and X41 tablet is that the hardrive is a 1.8" 4200rpm form factor, which is used in Ipods and other mp3 players. Therefore boot up time is a lot slower than the conventional 2.5" 5400 rpm or 7200rpm form factor hard drive. Once everything is booted up, It works fine and without much lagging. If it wasn't for tablet functions, I would go with Dell 700m already. As far as for tablet goes, I think IBM can't go wrong with this baby, they really have a winner for it.

I think IBM have hit their sweet spot with the IBM X41 Tablet edition a brilliant machine and most reviews agree with this.

Just been looking for a good source to purchase from and have come across www.technoworld.com they seem to have great prices and reviews. They are a UK based company aswell so cant go wrong.

I actually would have gone with the tablet but it is just a little larger then the X41 and I was looking for maximum portabilyt...plus I don't really "need" the tablet but would love to have the function.

Is the X41 tablet really that much bigger than the regular version?

Also, how does the X41 (either version) compare to the X40 in terms of size? Are they physically/cosmetically identical more or less?
