Beta is software that is still being developed and not the final release.

it really depends on what the software is for if you should take it or not.

however that said i would typically avoid beta releases unless you are a very experienced user since BETA releases are not polished final releases and may contain bugs and could cause system issues.

so in short, if you have to ask what a beta release is you should not be getting one.
