Core i7-powered 9280

Hi all - I just saw the 9280 on PCTorque's website. Given that it's a desktop chipset, how do you guys think it will handle living in a notebook chassis (heat/vibration/etc)? Would it perhaps be better to wait for Calpella to be released?

Also - are there any thoughts as to when will SLI become an option?

This thing is beefy - and cheaper than the 5797 that I was getting close to buying...

Hi Monkton

The 9200 series is not new to a desktop chipset, as the predecessor of the 9280 (the 9262) was also able to successfully handle desktop processors. Sager uses arctic silver cooling compound and state of the art fans and heatsinks also work to cool the processor. SLI will definitely be an option in the future - we just don't know when. Hope this helps.

Thanks. How about the battery life?

Do you have any idea what chassis Sager's calpella rig will use? Will it be something along the lines of the 5797, or a big monster like the 9280? Mainly I'm wondering if SLI will be an option with that.

The battery life on this model is 1.5-2.0 hours. The 5797 is not available in SLI and probably never will be but the new 9280 is SLI compatible.

I know the 5797 isn't available with SLI; I'm just wondering what the options will be with the upcoming Calpella/Clarksfield rig and whether it would be worth the wait, potentially until October.

I cancelled my 5797 and reodered the 9280 below in siggy...The price was close to the same...I just Knocked off a couple extra's I didn't need that was on the 5797, and came out paying about 100.00 more for the 9280 with the Extreme i7 quad
