windows 7 64-bit ready software

is there a sort of updated compendium of 64-bit software that's windows 7 ready? I'm thinking to get an np8662 and I want it to be "ready for use" with only the needed software (word processing, IMing services, browser, etc.) to be installed. As few as possible should be 32-bit emulation (ie: i want 64-bit native if possible).

Is there a kept list or any ideas?

Jason

No kept list, yet, here at NBF - but why not starting it ;-)

So far for my 64 bits W7:

. VLC 1 RC

. Open Office

. Yahoo IM

. GIMP2

. Firefox 3.0.10 and 3.5.4

Any other applications you have in mind?

....

cheers ...

it'll work in windows 7?

I've got this so far:
Dox's 185.85 64-bit driver
OpenOffice 3.1.0 Final

YIM and vLC 1RC will work?
As will FFX 3.5b4? (There's a site that apparently mods it to a 64-bit mode and from reviews its better.) And what about for AIM?

And drivers... for sound and internet and whatnot

Everything that you posted work under W7 64bits, in native mode.

Drivers - if you have Vista 64 bits drivers, they will work as well. I did have a few instances where Vista 32 bits drivers work, with no hiccup.

cheers ...

just FYI, WOW64 isnt an emulation layer. the processor still runs the 32-bit code normally on x86-64 processors, it just uses the WOW64 for memory calls (since 32bit apps cant access the 64-bit memory space, and the main system is running 64-bit memory addresses) and theres no performance change from running 32-bit version of Windows. only IA64 (server) processors have to emulate 32-bit applications because they cant run them natively

Basically any 32-bit app will work in Windows 7 x64 because of its emulation. The exceptions are if the application tries to install an unsigned driver; Windows 7 will block that.
