Is this laptop alright for gaming?

Hi,

It's an HP Compaq 6535b

} ATI Radeon HD 3200

} 2.2 Ghz AMD Turion x2 mobile processor

} 3 GB DDR2 SDRAM

This is the model I want ----VVVV

Nope, sorry. Games are heavily dependent on the graphics card, and that one just won't cut it. You'll want to look at the second (hundreds) digit in a graphics card number to tell how good it is. The higher that digit, the more powerful the graphics card will be.

For instance, the graphics card in the notebook you mentioned is an ATI 3200. The second digit is 2, which means it's low end. In order to smoothly run the games you want to play, you'll need a second digit of at least 6.

Thank you so much!!

That's great thanks for taking the time to help me!!

What midrange compatible graphics cards do you recomend that are reasonably priced?
I looked at the AMD HD 3850 and it was $124.
Whereas the AMD HD 3870 was $240.
Would games run smoothly on the 3850 or is the 3870 worth the extra money?

Ah, there's a small problem. You've been pricing desktop graphics cards. Mobile graphics cards cannot be bought or installed separately. They come with the notebook, so you have to find a notebook with a good graphics card.

New plan

HEy,

Thanks again for the info, because I never knew all this. I would have been totally screwed if I had gotten an underpowered laptop and just expected to upgrade the graphics.

I think I'll just order a laptop with a gaming graphics card in it with a high second number.

Anyway, I really appreciate your help!
