Mod Inspiron 9400/E1705 into an XPS M1710

I have an Inspirion 9400 and I want to turn it into an XPS M1710. I know that I can buy all the casing off ebay but the problem is the lights. Firstly do the lights on the XPS touchpad work on the inspiron? Secondly I read that to get the lights on the back of the screen to work, you need to solder them to a USB socket but I don't understand how to do this. Thanks for any advice.

whats the difference between the 9400 and m1710? i know on the 9300 to xps m170, you have to swap motherboards to get the lights.

gabiz_ro has a few people on his/her side.
As far as I see on motherboard, for 9400,there are missing components from motherboard which is related to leds.Don't remember exact name something like JFANLED1 etc.
Anyway you can try to get power for leds from usb but you loose control of them and result in leds just stay on while notebook is powered.

This question has been asked many times, the awnser is pretty much the same if you want the lights get the m1710 motherboard.

Search this forum, you'll find several threads on this topic.

But considering the value these days sell the 9400 and buy the M1710.
