I am curently going to be entering my freshman year at university. I now seem to be having a delemma.

Initially i was planning on purchasing a new 13 inch laptop for uni as i like portabiliy. At the current moment i have a 14.1 inch HP pavillion that i find too heavy to lug around. Now my current laptop is running just fine but once in a blue moon the visual drivers do some wacky things and the screens reverts back too normal. This does not impact the rest of the computer but i do not know if this problem is going to worsen. But for the past few months the laptop is doing just fine.

Now being a university student i am looking for the most cost effective alternative to choose from. Either i will buy a 13 inch laptop- macbook pro. But i know this will come me having to purchase additional software in order to make sure the conputer is compatable with windows and all. OR i can buy a net book for 400 CAD EEE PC 1005HA to take to lectures and all. In addition if i buy the netbook i will keep my laptop in my dorm and try to get another good 8 months out of it.

If i go with the netbook option, i will then buy a new laptop next year for sure when i enter my 2nd year in univeristy. If i buy a new laptop now, then i will not be able to upgrade next year.

Which option should i choose.

The option of getting a new small one to "lug" around whilst keeping the old one is cool and sensible.

For the old comp, I recommend that you take it apart and clean the fan and heat-sink and apply new thermal paste. It might last you more than 8 months ;-)
