Touch pad problem with Sager 2090

So my touch pad had been acting funny lately, and a friend of mine who happened to have bought a 2090 around the same time I bought mine offered to give me the touch pad from his, because he wasn't using that computer anymore.

I disassembled my laptop pretty carefully in order to install the new(ish) touch pad, and when I put everything back together again the machine turned on fine. The problem is, the touchpad didn't respond at all, nor did the left/right click buttons. I think the problem may have to do with the little slot on the motherboard in which you slip the little flat thing on the touchpad (sorry for the lack of proper terminology)
Here's a picture of it circled:

I only think it's that little thing because I plugged and unplugged the little strip that goes into there a few times, and I think I might have forced it in too far. And when I realized that the touch pad wasn't working, I disassembled everything and tried to plug my old touch pad back in just to see if it worked, and it didn't.
So, is there any way that I can get this little thing fixed? Would it cost a lot?
Or is it possible that this isn't the problem at all?
Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Sort of an update: I'm now realizing that my keyboard doesn't work, either. I find this especially odd considering that I only unplugged and replugged the keyboard once and did so very, very carefully. Maybe there's some larger problem at hand?

That ribbon cable slot must have a lock-down mechanism. It is possible that you have not release it before pulling the cable out. Check it again and hopefully that it was not being damaged.

cheers ...
