Hrm...... I was totally not checking out Athlon64 laptops and didn't realize that the VoodooPC 855 and whatnot was ODM'd by Mitac......

Doh! My dad's really good friend is some Mitac big wig and just last year gave my dad some free ultra-portable laptop... If I didn't already order my laptop I woulda asked him if he could've gotten me some good deal on some system.... oh well!

Your system looks sweet! Benchmarks are tasty

Sorry, 8355 can not support DDR 400 for now.
It's also AMD's old design guide limiation.
They don't guarantee can support it by old design guide. Thanks for your understing,

ouminan - Do you think you can check this with your fathers friend?
As original specs say it support DDR 400 memory.

Also have the same problem on battery as everyone else:
Stuck on 800MHz

In amd.com there are 2 cpu for notebooks(if i understood)
a. mobile amd athlon 64
b. amd athlon 64 for notebooks

Can you please tell me what is the difference and
which one of the two, voodoo and hypersonic are using?

And something else.
In mobile amd athlon 64

In mobile amd athlon 64 product brief
says:
An integrated memory controller with peak memory
bandwidth of 3.2 GB/sec, supporting PC3200, PC2700,
PC2100, or PC1600 DDR SDRAM

Which is also the case in Key architecture features

Supports PC3200, PC2700, PC2100 or PC1600 DDR SDRAM

However for
amd athlon 64 for notebooks

in learn more says:
An integrated memory controller with peak memory bandwidth
of 2.7 GB/sec, supporting PC2700, PC2100, or PC1600 DDR SDRAM

while in Key architecture features
Supports PC3200, PC2700, PC2100 or PC1600 DDR SDRAM

I'm totally confused...
Any help will be appreciated

thank you very much

Check out:

As i understand it the Mitac 8355 should support DDR400 memory.
But as per my previous post Mitac says it won't...
Also seen on the amdforum a guy who bought some for his Hyperdata model and it didn't work:
http://forums.amd.com/index.php?showtopic=3753
I have mailed the question if the Mitac 8355 support AND take advantage of DDR400 to Amitech.
Will update asap i get anyanswer from them..

Just talked with Amitech support.
They say that Mitac told them it will support it but not take advantage of it.
In other words: You can put in a DDR400 memory BUT it will run as DDR333 because the processor/chipset

hate to break the truth to you but the difference between hypersonic, voodoo and the other Mitac models is there is none. Your paying for eitehr the very pretty paintjob or the service that they supply along with the customer service.

Well, there are some differences in parts used. For instance:
Ram
cyberpower: pc2700 333mhz
hypersonic: pc3200 400mhz
voodoo: pc ? 333mhz

Wireless Network Card Available
cyberpower: 54mbs g
hypersonic: 108mbs super g
voodoo: 54mbs g

Warranty Available
cyberpower: 1 year
hypersonic: 3 year
voodoo: 3 year

DVD R
cyberpower: 2x
hypersonic: 2x
voodoo: 4x

There are some other differences, but I think my point is made. I am not saying one company is better than the other. My point is just that there are some differences, which may make one company better for one person and another company better for another person (depending on preferences).

Mitac 8355 up and running with Windows 7 32 bit at full speed!!!

Hi, I got my Mitac 8355 up and running fine with Windows 7 32 bit thanks to a program called CrystalCPUID. It allows me to override the processor driver and make it run at full speed. I got all the drivers installed and its flys!!!

If you are sick and tired of it running only at 800Mhz with Vista or Windows 7. I have found the solution. Its a program called CrystalCPUID on http://crystalmark.info/software/Cry...D/index-e.html After configuring it properly it runs at with cpu management at 800Mhz at idle load, 1.5G medium load, and 2.2G with high load. All the drivers are available for 32bit Vista and Windows 7 RC. Once you get your lan working go to device manager and tell it to search for these drivers(except audio and video) It will load everything correctly except the modem and sound. I used the original sound drivers from http://www.hyperdatadirect.com/techs...8350/audio.zip for xp and it refused to install but windows 7 comes back and says use recommended settings and it loads. The modem can be manually installed from Conexant Speed Link Via modem list of drivers. I got the dell ati radeon mobility video drivers at http://support.us.dell.com/support/d...&fileid=195615 When you run windows update do not let it update your keyboard drivers, it will not boot if you do. If you do just hit F8 while booting and set to last configuration that worked, and it will boot again. Works fine with default keyboard drivers.

I tested with 64bit Windows 7 RC. Some of the x64 drivers will not load in Windows 7 including video, audio, wireless lan, memory card reader. Update: I found ATI 9600/9700 Mobility x64 drivers that worked. Also I found Via 8233 audio drivers that didn't work but were required. You load the Via drivers with Via codec then load Cmedia 9738 audio codec drivers and the sound works great. I gave up trying to find the flash card reader drivers(never used) and my Intel 2100 wireless never had x64 drivers written for it. so I am buying a newer wireless card 802.11n draft 2.0 card that has x64 drivers available. Anyone who need the x64 drivers just email dblynn(at)gmail.com

There will be a virtual XP mode free addon coming in May so you can run your XP only programs in Windows 7 too!!!

For your info: That laptop was one of the first Athlon64 units on the market, and its still running! Note: forget about using the XP mode, you need new processor for it.
