Exclamation VIDEO DRIVER PROBLEM

I loaded a 64bit Vista OS on a machine that was shipped with a 32bit OS. Now the system will not recognize the installed ATI graphics card.

I am using a Sony VGN-FW190 laptop. This laptop currently has Vista 64-bit Home Premium as the operating system.

I have been told by Sony that their drivers are proprietary; that is, you cannot install a driver for a higher model onto a lower-model machine. For example, we tried installing a 64bit graphics driver for the VGN-VFW270 model onto a VGN-FW190 machine, but the VGN-FW190 machine returned an error message saying that this is not allowed.

So I need to find a 64bit graphics card driver for an ATI Radeon 3400 series card that somehow can be installed onto a VGN-FW190 machine that was shipped with the 32bit Vista OS.

* I have already tried loading drivers from the AMD site (AMD is the company that makes the ATI Radeon graphics cards). None of these drivers will install on the VGN-FW190 machine.

Any help you can give me is appreciated, and I thank you for your time.

Thank you very much for that suggestion.

I went to the URL you suggested, and at first it looked promising. I downloaded the installation program, but when I ran it I recognized it as the same program you can get from the AMD site. Been there, done that....The program says it loads the driver, but after the "installation," the driver's nowhere to be found, even after you re-start the computer....When this driver was working properly (under Vista 32bit), you would right-click on the desktop and choose an ATI driver program from the right-click menu. This program allowed you to change certain parameters for the ATI Radeon card. But now when I right-click the desktop, that choice is nowhere to be found.

I've tried installing this program from the AMD site but, once again, the program never installs properly.

I give up. I'll load XP, and buy a Vista32 upgrade disk.
