Project laptop value?

HP DV8230US:
Core Duo T2300
1gb RAM (2x512mb DDR2)
40gb hdd (capable of holding 2 harddrives, and I have the caddies. Original 2x80GB are with the original owner)
Atheros 5007EG wireless (original 3945G card died)
no DVDDL (original died, replacement was put in, but the system does not detect it. Windows doesn't detect a 2nd PATA controller.
128mb GeForce Go 7400
17" WXGA+ glossy (bright, no dead pixels, no problems with the screen)
4 USB 2.0
S-video
VGA
PCMCIA
Expresscard
5 in 1 card reader
10/100 Ethernet
56k modem
AC adapter
Battery gets 2 hours of life
Altec Lansing 2.0 speakers (sound's actually pretty decent)
XP Media Center Edition

XB2000 docking station
3 USB 2.0
S-video
RCA
VGA
modem
ethernet
SPDIF out
headphone out, mic in
Harmon Kardon speakers (sound's really REALLY good)

Potentially, an Expresscard TV tuner with remote, adapters, "effectively new" (I'm the first one to open it up, only had 30 minutes use)

Laptop and docking station are in good cosmetic shape. The only problem is with the optical drive, and I'd probably include a USB DVD burner.

I'm currently debating between whether to keep it and use it as a media center, or selling it off, along with my netbook, and a Dell GX270 and replacing the three things with a lightweight laptop. If I can find one with an Expresscard 54 slot, I'll keep the TV tuner, if not, I'll probably just sell it off and continue using my old CRT based TV.

I'd say you can get $300-400 for it.

An update. Now it's reading the DVD burner. I've no clue why it works now when it didn't before, but it makes the system that much nicer. So, with this in mind, does this change the price?

you might be able to add $25-50 on, but not much. The thing working against your computer is its age. 3-4 year old notebooks lose a lot of their value over time.

I know its age works against it. It's just a matter of how much age devalues it vs. the added value of the docking station, dedicated videocard, larger screen vs. the machines it would priced against.

Now that the optical drive works, I'm far more likely to just look at putting in more RAM and another harddrive.

I would split the package out, the notebook and the peripheral (docking station). You might get more than the combined offer.

cheers ...

$300 would be great if you could get. 3 years is such a long time in a notebooks life. qhn's suggestion of splitting is good. I would not split the dock from the notebook. But you have to find the one right buyer.

Good luck.
I don't even sell my old ones just not enough resale value.
