Best time/deal to buy?

Hey all--several years ago I bought an Alienware desktop (before Dell bought them) and now I'm in the market for a M17X. I spent months looking at options then and became familiar enough with the discounts they typically offered that I knew when the "right" time to buy was.

Anyone have any advice on this now? Does Dell ever do much in terms of AW discounts? What should I be waiting on--free shipping, an upgrade, a % discount? (As a state employee I can get 7% off, which will help.)

Anyway, any tips from those of you who may have been following this for a while would be appreciated. Like I said, way back when I did this and chickened out when a good deal came around and had to wait almost 6 weeks for another comparable one to come around--don't want to do that this time!

Have you checked out the Dell/AW site? They run some sort of discount every day, along with coupon offers on selected models.

Limited Free upgrade is always being made available.

cheers ...

One thing I have noticed is AlienWare's prices have dropped substantially sale or no sale. That is a good thing for us consumers.

scottwmp has a few people on his/her side.
You might check www.Costco.com.
They have pre-configured m17x and m15x. They have the m15x with the new i7 proc.
Price is pretty good $2400 config for $2000 and comes with a 2 year warranty.

Wow, Costco is jumping into the fray of the m15x/m17x? This is definitively adding more good news for consumers as powerpack mentioned above.

cheers ...

Keep an eye out for Bing Cashback which only recently drove down the cost of a AW by 15%.
