Anti-Reflective Film?

Hi all!

I'm patiently waiting for my recently ordered M17x to arrive. So in the mean time I'm doing some extra research. One of the things I keep reading about the M17x laptops is how reflective the screen is. So much so, that some feel it unusable at times. So, I'm a bit worried.

I ordered one with this consideration mainly because where it will reside while I'm doing 90% of my use/gaming there should be little for it to reflect. But, the other 10%, or if it ends up being still to much in the original 90% of use, I'm wondering what to do. Seriously, I'd prefer to see pretty graphics rather than my ugly mug! I'm not a big fan of reflective screens anyway, but consider many other factors as more important than how flashy the screen surface is.

A quick Google search turned up a few sites like this:

http://www.photodon.com/mm5/merchant...egory_Code=DLL

Does anyone have any experience with these? I've used quite a few film covers on cell phones, and I do know they can be a pain to install on small screens. So, I'm expecting a real work-out to install one on a 17" screen. Also, the link above only shows normal Dell laptops. Does anyone know of a maker specifically for Alienware screens?

Personally I still can't understand why most all desktop LCD screens have matte or non-reflective finishes, yet laptops still have shiny disturbing reflective ones? Just doesn't make sense.

Thanks!

My experience with films like these has been bubbling, lint, and just plain annoyances during installation, unless you are in a completley sterile environment. If things like that don't bug you, go for it...

One thing to keep in mind is that the m17x screen is Edge to Edge, which means there will be portions that the glare protector will not cover... making the laptop look tacky imo...

I used to cover the screen with some projector folios. You can buy them in different clarity or "fog" papers. Just trim them off and slide them under the LCD cover.

cheers ...

Thanks guys for the ideas and responses. Very good information.

Turmoil, yeah, I'm not looking foward to the headache. That site I posted does offer mail in installation. I'm considering that too, thinking they have the best environment and expertese on install.

qhn, neat idea. Sounds easy too. I'll look into that.

Thanks!

I would be afraid that film would give it a washed out look. The screen is highly reflective, most reflective screen I've ever seen. At the same time you get used to it and only really notice it when the system is off.

I agree with the film type. That was the reason I chose the folios, no sticking and easy to swap out.

cheers ...
